Channel management allows you to leave Teams, leave Channels, Ban and Unban other users, delete Channels, and delete Direct Conversations. In order to use Channel Management features, make sure you are running the most recent version of Semaphor.
LEAVE A TEAM
If you want to leave a Team permanently, you can do so by following these steps:
1. Select the blue settings gear next to the team you wish to leave.
2. Select the option to ‘Leave Team’.
4. A confirmation warning window will appear. If you are certain you wish to leave this Team, select the ‘Leave’ option. Note: Leaving a Team is not reversible. You will not be able to rejoin a Team once you have left.
LEAVE A CHANNEL
If you no longer want to be in a channel, you can leave it. Here’s how:
1. Select the channel you wish to leave as the main view of Semaphor.
2. In the top right of the Semaphor application window there will be a blue ‘…’. Select this symbol.
3. Select Leave Channel.
4. A confirmation warning window will appear. Select ‘Leave Channel’ to remove yourself from the channel. You will no longer be able to see this Channel or any of its contents.
BAN A USER FROM A TEAM
When a member of a Team is no longer necessary or wanted, you can ban them. Banning will permanently remove a member from your Team, so be absolutely certain that you want to ban. Banning is not reversible.
Note: you must be an Administrator of this Team in order to ban someone.
1. Select the blue settings gear next to the team you wish to ban a user from.
2. Select Team Members.
3. In the Team Members view, find the user you wish to ban. Select that user to open his or her user profile.
5. Select ‘Ban from Team’ option to permanently ban this user from your Team.
BAN A USER FROM A CHANNEL
If you want to remove a member from your Channel, you can do so by banning the user. Banning will remove this user from the Channel and he or she will no longer see the Channel or any of its contents. Banning a user from a channel is reversible; to re-add any user that has been banned, please see Unbanning a user from a channel.
Note: You must be an Administrator of this Channel to ban someone.
1. Select the channel you wish to ban someone from.
2. Select the Users icon in the top right corner to open your Channel Member Directory.
3. In the Directory, select the user you wish to ban and open their User Profile.
4. From menu choose ‘Ban from Channel’. When the confirmation window opens, confirm that you wish to Ban this user. This will move the user to the banned section of the channel directory.
UNBAN A USER FROM A CHANNEL
If you would like to un-ban a user, you can re- add them to a channel from which they were banned. Note that unbanned users will be able to see any Channel content which was added during the time when they were banned. Users will be re-added as Members, regardless of whether they were Administrators before they were banned.
1. Select the channel you wish to unban someone from as the main view of Semaphor.
2. Select the Users icon in the top right corner to open your Channel Member Directory.
3. In the Directory, click the Add User icon at the top right.
4. Select the users you want to re-add to the channel. This will re-add this user to the channel as a Member.
DELETE A CHANNEL
Note: you must be an Administrator of this channel in order to delete it. Deleting a channel is not reversible.
1. In the channel view, select the channel you wish to delete.
2. In the top right of the Semaphor application window, next to your avatar, there will be a blue ‘…’. Select this symbol.
3. On the dropdown menu, select Delete Channel.
4. A confirmation warning window will appear. Select ‘Delete’ to permanently delete this Channel and all of its contents. Deleting a Channel is not reversible, and all members will immediately lose access to all messages and attachments that were only stored in this Channel.
DELETE A DIRECT CONVERSATION
1. Select the Direct Message you wish to delete.
2. In the top right of the Semaphor application window, next to your avatar, there will be a blue ‘…’. Select this symbol to open a dropdown menu.
3. On the dropdown menu, select Delete Conversation.
4. A confirmation warning window will appear. Select ‘Delete’ to permanently delete this Direct Message and all of its contents. Deleting a conversation is not reversible, and both participants will immediately lose access to all messages and attachments that were only stored in this conversation.
