If you have never set a recovery key, the application will present you a prompt in the left column of the Semaphor application.
Selecting ‘Set Key’ will open the recovery key section of Semaphor where you can select ‘Set Recovery Key’. The recovery key is the only way to recover your account if you lose your device with Semaphor installed or have a catastrophic failure.
The application will automatically generate a key made up of several words. Make sure to copy this key somewhere safe like a password manager or encrypted notepad file. SpiderOak staff cannot reset this key, nor can we see what it is, so if you lose or fail to record the recovery key there is no way to recover your account.
Select ‘Set Key’ once you have copied the key down. Semaphor will prompt you with a reminder to copy the key somewhere and ask if you are happy with the key. Select ‘Yes, set Recovery Key’ and you will be met with a success prompt.
You can change your recovery key at a later date by accessing your profile and navigating to the ‘Recovery Key’ option.
