The command line interface (CLI) is a text mode that allows you to control SpiderOak ONE and Groups without using the graphical user interface (GUI). Common uses for it are when running on a so-called headless computer without a screen, and for scripting periodic commands. It is intended for advanced users, and for that reason this and all our CLI instructions presume some familiarity with the command line on your operating system.
To begin with the command line, first quit the SpiderOak application if it is running. Don't just minimize the application, shut it down completely by clicking or right clicking on the icon in the notification area, then selecting Quit. If the GUI is running, then any attempt to run the CLI will fail with an error message.
Next, open a command prompt window (Windows) or terminal (Mac or Linux), which is where you will be entering the commands. Where this is found depends upon your operating system.
Next, determine the path to the SpiderOak ONE executable, which you will use when giving CLI commands. Where this is found depends upon whether you are using SpiderOak ONE or Groups, and on your operating system.
Next, learn about the available command line options. Two particularly useful options are --headless and --batchmode. And with that you will be on your way.
